When I was a fundie, I was 100% against swearing. I had a list of words that I considered swear words, and it was a fairly sizeable list. I felt the same way - that swearing is for uncreative people...if you need to express something in that way, think up something creative and original. But then I got to thinking...when I swear I am trying to make a certain point. If I use a different word, I am still trying to make that same point. Thus, what does it matter which letters I use to make that point? If I consider sh** a swear word, so instead I say crap...doesn't crap then become a swear word? If instead of saying damn it, I say darn it...I am expressing the same thing. Why then is darn it not a swear word? What determines whether a word is a swear word or not?
As to you not cussing/swearing even when you are mad, and your vow not to - that is commendable. I wish you the best and may your journey in this be an easy one.

The trouble with cuss words, is that any word is only a cuss word if people think it is.
For example, on the radio this morning, I heard the presenters using a word from Ireland (cause of St Patrick's day), that is actually a cuss word. Because no one over here has heard of the word and do not know it's meaning, therefore no one thinks of it as a cuss word.
Many cuss words were actually regular words, that over time became cuss words.
So yeah.. I cuss.. If the cuss word expresses my sentiment accurately, then I see no problem.

To think of a word as nasty is irrational. Use words to express the feeling you have. If you replace a "curse" word with another word, just because a "curse" word, saying that not the meaning behind the word is bad, but the way it sounds. Fluffing up your language only fluffs up the emotion or expression behind it. By using less intense words, you are expressing less intense feelings. All words have a purpose, to limit the ones you use is to limit your expressability.

I do cuss. I have a B.A. in English (to give you an idea of my background and where I'm coming from in my opinion). Cuss words are just words. They can't hurt you. Some words in the English language are not fit to actually convey the disgust or anger that cuss words convey. Hence the reason cuss words are often used. They're powerful and convey EXACTLY what those of us who use them are trying to convey.
Also - if you are offended by them that is your issue. Not mine. You choose to be offended or think certain words are demeaning. The words themselves are not - you're the one who places that connotation on them. So I'll continue to use cuss words as I need them. They're simply words to me and I do not find them offensive at all.

Yes I cuss. My husband does to but that's only when the divas on WWE Raw, ECW, and Smack down on TV. Lol. Yeah I need to quit cussing as I'm Muslim and I'm not supposed to say bad words.

Ok uhktee, saalaam alaikum. When we say a Shadow en laa illah haa illa Allah Muhamaadem Rasoolilah Saaws, we are automatically submitting to the will of Allah Swt , and when Allah Swt tells us in the Quran to be pious, we must be, so therefore we cannot cuss. Thanks, and peace be with you.

I swear because that's the way I like to express myself sometimes.
I feel like there are so many words we can use to express ourselves that it is important to learn to spell them properly.

I cursed because is a way to vent my anger. There is nothing sinful about that. For example, if somebody hits your brand-new car most people aren't going to say "golly" but they would use an expletive. We can express ourselves in any way we want.
