Changes to car title in Illinois.?

How do I get my ex-husband's name off of my car title? He has signed the front of the title. At the same time, I need to change my last name on the title. What do I do?

Take the title and your proof of name change to the DMV. You will need proof of the name change, a marriage license will work, or your divorce decree if it says you are taking on another name. Is the vehicle less than ten yrs old? If so, your husband will need to sign the odometer disclosure, either on the title or on a disclosure form. He will sign as seller, you as buyer, even though no money is being transferred, it is still a title transaction. Should go pretty easily, good luck.
