Does pilates really help you loose weight, or, is it more of a toning type of exercise?

I have a good diet & do alot of cardio & ab machines at my gym, but, cannot seem to loose the "tummy pouch" I have (& I have never been pregnant, so it's not from that ). So, I was wondering if something like pilates will help. ( please do not suggest taking any type of supplements b/c I am on a strict diet for some health reasons so I need to loose this weight naturally)

pilates works for lots of people. even if you just tone up, you'll look thinner.

any type of exercise will help you lose weight as long as it increases the amount of calories you burn compared to the number of calories you take in.
