I resently stopped taking a medication which caused a lot of weight gain through the years.....Since then...I have been losing about 5 pounds a week...... when I told my doctor that I have been losing like this for 2 months now, she informed me that 40 pounds lost in 2 months is way too fast.....I thought it was incredible...she thinks it isn't good....I am confused.....I am still 45 pounds over my goal weight. Why is this a bad thing?

I have been eating healthy....just as I always have....... lots of fruit and vegies and protein..... I am glad that the extra weight is going....but not really doing anything to make it happen...As I said.... I was VERY overweight...... and really still am.....before the meds however.... I was very trim....and I always work out. Go figure!!

If you're eating well and exercising, lost 5 pounds a week IS a lot but it's out of your control.

It's a bad thing only because you won't keep it off and probably aren't receiving the nutrition you need.

Just eat a well balanced meal , exercise, and you'll be fine.

2 or 3 pounds a week is considered safe for lasting effects, but since your meds caused weight gain, the loss might be related. rapid weight loss is linked with other medical problems, such as loss of muscle tissue or regaining the weight when you go off the diet.

The doc's always tell you something that is a shock to your system. the problem was the meds once off of them then your body gets a shock and wants to go back to normal operation. I would not worry unless you are not eating right.

ot's bad because it hurts your body...when you gain or lose weight your body has to adjust to that drastic change. you need a certain amount of calories to maintain your weight. when you weight goes up or down you have to adjust the amount of calories you consume so your body will have everything it needs to function. i think with you losing the weight so fast it is putting stress on your body to keep up and that's why your doctor is against that much weight loss.

Anytime you gain or loose weight drastically (in a short amount of time) you put a whole lot of stress on your heart, as well as your other organs.

Docs say that because it could be bad for your heart. to lose that fast. But what can you do! As long as you feel good then just be careful and be happy.

5 Pounds a week is pretty fast, three sounds better.
