Please don't give it to a shelter, but try putting an ad in the paper for a free cat. Also, it is quite young, some pet stores may take it as well.
Good luck

Not all shelters put animals to sleep. Look for a "no kill" shelter in your area. If your cat is a purebred of any kind, you might also look for breed rescue groups. Giving a cat to a stranger is no guarantee that the cat will be well-treated; most shelters, even those that do eventually euthanize animals, try their hardest to adopt out the animals that are adoptable. The question is, why are you getting rid of her? Is there a behavior problem? It could be something that, with a little patience, you can train her out of (yes, you can train cats!) Some people like cute little kittens but aren't so crazy about them when they get a little bigger, but cats get attached to you, too, you know. Is she spayed? If she's not and she's being a little difficult, she could be in heat. You took on a responsibility when you got your cat, so you owe it to her to do the best you can in finding her a good home. She could live to be 20 or longer, so do some research.

Craigs List. You should really keep her though. She is your responsibility. About a month ago I adopted a cat from Pet Pro Life Adoptions(she's 7). Cats dont know what is going on, they go from having a home to not having a home and they dont know why. It is so sad. My cat hid under the bed for a week, she is still really shy and nervous. So you should really think about keeping her. Your cat your responsibility. And if you do "get rid" of her(gosh that sounds just horrible!!!) you are pretty selfish.

Try and find out if any of your friends or family might want the cat. Sometimes nursing homes like to have pets around to interact and bring up the spirits with the people in the nursing home. Please don't just get rid of it by leaving it outside of your house because you couldnt find a home.

Put up flyers in a few local pet hospitals and pet stores, and maybe run a free add on Craigslist, or see if there are any no-kill shelters in your area.

Sorry, but why did you get her if you don't want to keep her? Don't put her in a shelter, they will put her down pretty quick (or most will.) Please put an ad in the paper or a flyer in town at the stores etc. But also please make sure she goes to a good home if you get results from those resources.
