Not necessarily, They do a quick scan of the return to look for errors but they do a more thorough review later in the year. They do not have all of the forms from employers yet. The employers are not required to submit those forms until April 2, 2007 (link below). Then they will review the forms to your tax return to make sure you accurately reported your income.

No, it doesn't mean that everything is correct. There are a few items they check immediately before issuing a refund - for example, names must match the social security numbers, and the same ss# can't take an exemption on multiple returns. But the validity of most items is checked later, so if something is found wrong, for example you left off a W-2 or someone else claimed the same dependent later, then you would be notified that there is a problem, and might owe additional taxes.

No, it only means that there were no math errors or obvious errors of law detected in your return as filed. They have 3 years from the filing deadline to review your return and adjust your tax liability.

First, a return is what you file. Any money they send back is called a refund. The ONLY thing they check before sending refunds is the math. Audits of the amounts claimed rarely happen until long after refunds are issued.

Yes. If they were incorrect they would have sent you a letter letting you know that they were wrong and that this is your new refund or what you owe. But they can still audit you sometime in the future.
