First of all, I haven't seen a 70 year old do push-ups since Jack Palance on the Oscars. Doing 17 is great and I admire your progress goals.

You need to make sure you're getting enough protein in your diet in order to build muscle. Choose low fat sources of protein like chicken, fish and maybe even a protein shake supplement. You might want to consult a doc about the supplements. Also, make sure you eat within an hour of working out so our muscles have the means to build.

There are charts on the Internet to help you determine how much protein you need to consume based on age, body type and level of activity.

Push-ups generally work your chest, triceps, shoulders and a bit of the lats.

Good Luck!!

Pls do not be offended if i say that instead of doing rigrous exercises you must now try taking Yoga classes and pls try learning Pranayam and Yoga Nidra.
That is very very benficial for all ages and the results would be long lasting.
Good luck

Pressups usually help with the biceps, triceps, and pectoral regions. They can also help (a little) with the lats, and shoulders.
