Agreed--it would be wonderful the see the end of tribalistic organized religion-but history shows it will never happen--the best we can hope for is that exposing the falseness & contradictions will eventually morph the contemporary religions into forms that are more compatable with modern society.

Some people need religion to feel secure in their life, like a guideline. Of course, there are the zealots that make the others look bad. But that's a small fraction. Why do other's beliefs bother you ? is the real question. Calling a group of people ignorant for their beliefs is, in fact, ignorance itself. After all, no one will really know until they leave this place who's right and who's wrong.

Until their ignorance is lifted, of course. People are not usually believers because they are convinced by evidence and reason that the supernatural exists. The are believers because they believe that they are good persons only if they believe. It is the need for self-esteem and ethical endorsement that holds people in their beliefs. Once you discover a facts-only morality, one that fully fits the requirements of your life in the universe, the need for the approval of others of any specific belief dissolves and you finally are on the road to a high self-esteem. Such a morality was discovered and formulated, including its factual proof and all its requirements in daily living, by the American novelist/philosopher, Ayn Rand. It is called Objectivism. I was thinking about the word "religion" the other night actually.

It occured to me that a "religious" person is defined today as:

- Someone who is adamant about something being true without any basis for it.

(i.e. I am religiously into my music, I watch that show religiously etc)

However, this was not always the perspective regarding belief in God.

Only in recent history have people been committing spiritual suicide.

PS. God and science are not mutually exclusive!!!

it somewhat is real, whether it does no longer recommend they are no longer fairly christians. maximum folk stick to cultural norms like celebrating Easter with bunnies and eggs, whether it has pagan roots. lack of expertise of the commencing place of a holiday would not replace the incontrovertible fact that somebody is a christian. Many christians comprehend the place that stuff got here from, and refuse to take part. additionally, only using fact we take place to have fun in any different case on a similar date, would not practice that the two party is fake. I have fun the upward thrust of Christ on that day, as nicely as another Sunday, and the eggs and pastel colours all around me do no longer replace that. i stumble on it humorous that pagans think of that christians are no longer truthful or have not got self assurance what they say they suspect, only using fact they take place to stay with some cultural celebrations that no-one recollects the reason for besides. Counterfeit gold does shrink the fee of genuine gold, no longer using fact the real gold replaced, yet using fact somebody theory the pretend stuff grow to be genuine and paid stable money for it. I save thinking why you adult males continuously get those issues backwards, yet i assume even smart human beings could be blinded by employing a closed techniques.

As long as I'm here there will be at least one person, as well as many scientists that believe it all points to a Creator.

Don't fret about it, we're not going to go down without a "fight" not a war, but I will stand up for what I believe and will not be silent even in the face of opposition. So don't count your chickens before they hatch, cause I'm here to stay....

there needs to be something philosophically and socially satisfying enough to replace it. Organized religion won't just go away, it needs to be splintered into infinite different groups so that they point out each others stupidity and young people hear all the faults and choose to stay out. At least that's what we decided at the last Secular Progressive Conspiracy meeting. sorry you missed it.

The universe is vast, unknown to all, full of mysteries. How can a person not wonder? I am ignorant and happy to know I am because the world is still a wonder to me.

I imagine, given the predisposition of the human brain to belief, that ignorant people will continue to believe as long as they persist in writing words that don't exist, such as "surpressed."

If you knew the ignorance and danger of your statement you would not speak so boldly.

It is apparent that you are young and naive. I hope that in the coming years life experience alone will allow you to see more clearly.
