My neighbor found what we think is a blue heeler. it looks like maybe 4 to 5 weeks old. The puppy has blue eyes is that a trait of the blue heeler?

Yes, blue eyes are a heeler trait, though not exclusive to healers. This is not to say heelers have blue-eyes only. They'll have anywhere from dark brown to light grey, and fairly often will have two different colored eyes. The pup should be "pepper-shot" though with dark "blue" spots mixed with lighter greyish-blue bits on a more prevelent coat of a color somewhere in the middle of those two. That'll be the easiest way to tell until he grows to adult proportions...
Also, he will LOVE to chase things...ALL kinds of things...and will chew like a mother-bear on just anything he can't chase.

blue heelers can have blue eyes, but that is also the trait of several breeds. Blue heelers have short coats, and most are have blue "patches" w/ a tan or white trim, but some can have red "patches"

I've never seen a heeler with blue eyes. This is more common in aussies and shelties who are blue merle. Can you post a pic?
