The keys to a secure pin are for it to be something you can remember, but no one could guess. A bad example is your birthdate, which is the first that people would guess.
The year of a historical event, or a holiday might work. The final score of the Homecoming game where you got your first kiss, or something. Numbers that spell out a word on a telephone can work, if it's a word you'll remember.
Random numbers are bad, because if they are random, you won't remember them, and have to write them down, and someone that can get your card can get your note.
Memorable, but not guessable.

If it is a debit/credit card the pin should be provided to you in a separate envelope mailed from the company you bought the card from.

Something only you would know, for example your birthday...
If lets say for example I was born in "May 14th 1984"
You could say you were born 5/14/1984 (May/14/1984)
So make your pin 5142984 or 51484
