I have a pain on my left side where my kidney is which keeps coming and going. I have had kidney infections before and they stayed but sometimes I feel well for a few hours and the pain is more of an ache than a sharp pain. If it comes and goes can this also be a kidney infection or just a stress reaction? Thank you.

You need to see your doctor as soon as possible! Sometimes bladder infections can spread to the kidney (which is called pyelonephritis), a very serious condition that usually requires hospitalization and IV antibiotics. If the wrong antibiotic was given in the first place, the bacteria may have been resistant to them and may have continued to flourish and do damage for this whole month. Sometimes infection can spread beyond the kidney and cause abscesses on the surface of the kidney or even in the bloodstream. In that case the person usually has not only pain, but a fever.

Another possibility is that the symptoms you are having are not from your kidney at all. Other conditions that might cause left lower abdominal pain include diverticulitis (infection in small outpouchings of the colon; unusual for people <40 years old) and, if you are a young woman, infection in the left fallopian tube or ovary. Please see your doctor as soon as possible: you will probably need tests of urine and blood, as well as either an ultrasound exam or CAT scan of your abdomen.

i have gone through the same thing. when i went to the doctor, he said that it could either be that i pulled a muscle back there or i could have another kidney or bladder infection (i've had many bladder infections & even went to the hospital for my kidney infection). when the urinary tests came back the doctor told me that i have a staff infection in my bladder, but can be fixed with antibiotics..if i were u i would go to the doctor & get it checked out to be on the safe side :)

If it is kidney stones plenty of water will help for the pain. An alkaline diet will help to very gradually dissolve kidney stones (if they were caused by too much acidity which is one of the most common causes) but this takes a long time.

Yeah, I agree with the first answer. You should add a lot more water to your diet along with some cranberry juice. I get these pains a lot, but I also drink alcohol. Water will help flush out all the toxins from your kidneys and you should stop getting those pains.

It could be kidney or the stress, but it also may be if your malnurished with liquids. I had that pain once and it was stress, but the doc also checked me for kidney and it came back not at all. So it could be either.. lol

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

probably is a kidney infection. I had one last year and it sounds just like how you describe. I would get to your doctor asap. They can be dangerous.
