My son is 17 months old and he stil has his. he has a pooh theme in his room so they go with his theme. he likes them in there when i try to take them out to wash them he grabs them and screams. if your afraid of SIDS then maybe you should take them out but my son slept on his stomach his whole infancy because he wouldn't sleep on his back so the bumper pads were the least of my worries.

I never used a bumper pad, I was more concerned about baby getting cought up in the bumper pad and not being able to breathe than I was about her bumping her head on the bars.

According to the SIDS info, you should never use them at all.....I did use them on my girls...always put them to bed on their backs, middle of the crib, no covers.....away from bumpers.....my thought was if they get old enough/mobile enough to get their face by the bumper, then they are strong enough to move away. I found they did not bump their heads on the crib until they were up on tummy a lot anyway....about 5 mo. old..............SO, you could lose the bumpers all together until baby starts to bump head and avoid SIDS risk. Remove bumpers forever when baby starts standing on them to boost out of crib (my girls were 1 1/2 by then). Good luck.

keep them while she uses the crib, The bumpers arent even functional at that point, When they are around 10 mnts they start moving around like crazy and if those bumpers arent there they smack their little heads alot, or thier little legs might slip through and get caught.

I got rid of ours when our son figured out how to pull them away from the sides of the crib - I think it was between 4 &5 months. I figured the danger of him getting caught in them was worse than the danger of him bumping his head.

In my opinion, you can take them out when your child has developed the motor skills that will keep them from rolling staight into the bars and smacking their head.

You should keep them until your baby is able to stand and might use them to try to climb out.
