Like, there's no way to give an accurate answer to this question. How long milk lasts varies based on a number of factors, including how long you left it setting on the counter, how long it rode around in your car after leaving the store and at what temperature, what temperature your refrigerator is set on... I have had milk go bad before the sell-by date.
I find that if I have not used much milk in the container, it is good for a couple of days more than if there was little left in the container. I also find that 2% lasts longer than whole milk, and milk stored in my garage refrigerator that is almost at freezing will keep longer in general, even when moved to the kitchen.
Here's what I suggest to test your milk without getting a horrible shock... Pour about an inch into a clear glass. If it is discolored or something other than completely liquid, toss the whole thing out. If it looks fine, take a small sniff, if it still smells o.k., take a big sniff. If it still smells o.k., take your finger and get a little drop to test on your tongue. If it tastes o.k., take a little sip. If it still tastes o.k. take a drink. Even if it's starting to blink it won't gag you, it'll just taste funny. You will be able to smell it if it is too far gone.
What I really hate is buying a pint of perfectly good, non-expired chocolate milk on a hot day, getting to the car and down the road only to open it and find it to be sour. Yech!!

if you keep your refrigerator at the coldest setting then you can usually go 3-4days past the sell date milk that is not good will have a sour taste to it my advice is to test it first if it does not have a sour taste then all should be ok if you are buying it by the gallon and not using all of it then try going for a half gallon instead

Dang! sometimes it can spoil even BEFORE the expire date. So it depends. I have some last way past the expire date (2-3 days) and some sour before the date.
