Westchester and Dutchess county

All these areas have similar issues and problems.

I mean, NYC has totally different issues than Plattsburg, NY, etc.

What is common is that for people fromn upstate New York, most of there taxes are coming downstate, that's one of the reasons why that whole upstate region is basically economically dead, for the most part.

They have the legal right to -- I believe the criteria for statehood was 60,000 people, obviously no problem here! But I don't see it happening unless the resentment is really that strong. I doubt it because I would imagine that New York State gets federal dollars from the population base NYC has.

I recall discussing this in high school history -- there are no laws preventing this contrary to a previous answer.

I think more of a priority would be to allow the District of Columbia to become a state. I have seen reports on the benefits they get screwed out of because they are not a state -- rather ironic that the place where Congress meets has no local representation.

Greetings from a similar situation here in the People's Republic of Chicago in the District of Stroeger, the only area that keeps Illinois from being a red state.

you have a good point
I always like the idea of splitting California
and letting Michigan's upper peninsula become its own state
but political dynamics of TODAY have been built on centuries of this very same problem
so in a word , no
it will create more problems that it fixes

no. pretty sure that you cant just divide states like that. each state is actually its own separate nation to an extent. So this would be virtually impossible to do.
