This is a very controvercial issue that has been discussed worldwide. Some say that "Hijab" the head cover is a must in Islam while some others say it's just Sunna. Sunna means that you don't commit a sin if you don't do it. I read an article written by Her Majesty Queen Rania about that and it was very critical and interesting. I need more about it.

You're supposed to cover everything but your face and hands in the Quran. Covering everything but your eyes is only sunnah, you get rewards if you do, if you dont no harm done.

It's required [Al-Qur'an, surah Al-Noor: 31]. There are plenty of evidence from ahadeeth also.

Queen Rania said so because she doesn't wear it herself, and trust me, she doesn't want her citizens to think she's sinful.

I wouldn't call it a controversial issue, it's more or less clear that it's mandatory. Women's dress has more conditions than mere head-cover:
1. Not tight or transparent
2. Covers entire body
3. To have an opening in front only and the opening is well closed
4. Contains nothing that could attract looks, not decorated, not a decoration by itself, not colourful
5. Not perfumed
6. Resembles not the clothing of disbelieving women
7. Resembles not the clothing of men
8. Covers body from head downwards

Men's clothes also have their conditions.

Paul said Christian woman should wear a veil covering their head also.Christian women think Pauls commandment is silly-perhaps in the fullness of time Muslim women will also abandon the practise.

It's sunna. The Quran says to dress modestly and to make sure that your figure is not showing. The Prophet (PBUH) advised women to just let their face and hands show. I would like somebody to show me where in the Quran it says hair, because I haven't seen it.

it is obligatory. The only difference of opinion is about the face veil, but covering the hair is definitely obligatory.

I believe that originally there was no rule about headcover, but then Muslim culture came into contact ith another culture, I think it was the Byzantine empire, that wore head cover. So from there it became practice and eventually expected, becaus wealthy woman wore it to show their modesty.

The face veil is a Sunnah, good if you wear it, no problem if you don't.

The headscarf is necessary.

Some say it's required, others say it's sunna.

Can't tell for sure though.
