Give the food first...when he's done, give the milk. Give him little sips of water during the meal, but don't let him keep the cup to fill up on it. If he has not met his milk quota for the day, let him have a cup before bed.

my 2 1/2 year old girl is very picky, and as she says "I don't eat much".
Stop Milk at meals. Use it for snacks instead. If he can't fill up on milk, he may eat more food.
Make at least 1 thing you know he likes to eat, and offer him other foods to go with it. it usually takes a child 15 to 20 times of trying something before they decide they like it.
Limit snacks to 2 hours before meals, If he is hungry, he will eat.
Check out the link below to know how much food he actually needs. Click on My Pyramid Plan and put in his age and weight. One tablespoon per age is about the amount per serving. (my daughter is less than 25 lbs, so she really does eat less than a 40 pound child her same age)
Good Luck, This too will pass.

Stop the milk and snacking. Only give him food at regular meal times. Why don't you try serving him other foods at first?Don't show him the milk at all, or rather don't keep it in the house.
If he still doesn't want to eat. Let him skip a meal or two until he's hungry. He'll be happy to eat anything when he's really hungry. Won't hurt to try it.
I know, because my mom tried it on me and it worked!

My son went through the exact same phase at that age. In fact, he just turned 4 a couple of weeks ago, and is still a picky eater. Just recently he has been eating more than just macaroni and cheese. Last night he ate a cheddarwurst with ketchup and I was thrilled to death. When they get hungry enough, they will eat. My pediatrician told me this. Don't worry. It will all work itself out. Does he like those gummy snacks by Gerber?...My son still loves those and he is getting some of the viatamins that he needs, while eating something he loves. Try those and see.

Isn't it frustrating! Both my kids were like that but they are good eaters now. They just LOVED their milk and there was nothing I could do about it. I'm paying for it now though in dental bills.
Limit his milk. Too much can lead to iron deficiency. Also make sure when he does eat they are healthy choices. Finger food is fun. Like cheese and avocado. My kids love baby corn. Try little squares of cut ham with apple sauce to dip. I also used to buy BIG cookie cutters and make heart or star shaped sandwiches. Pasta is always a hit.
Just use you imagination and remember he's not going to die or be malnourished.

Both my kids went through this and yes it is just a phase. Your son will eat when he is hungry.
This is normal. At least he is drinking his milk that's a good thing. Maybe try and make him some different foods and let him dunk it. OMG my kids love to dunk anything. Chicken nuggets or their veggies. I have heard a lot of kids like to do this.
Good Luck and try not to worry too much he will out grow it.

My daughter is in that stage. Try to cut back the milk, tell him that he can have milk with his meal but thats it, my pediatrician says its a phase but you have to enforce good eating habits. Cut back snacking too. Thats what I did.

Don't give him his milk first, for starters. Move his meal time later so he's really hungry. Then give him his food (no milk). And NO MORE SNACKS. Kids don't need nearly as many snacks as we tend to give them. If he's hungry at dinner, he WILL eat.

its ok. I don't understand paretns that worry about this. He is not going to starve himself to death. If you make a big deal out of it, he will get a complex. Any living thing will eat enough to live unless they have a mental illness. It is actually healthy to graze throughout the day. Eating 3 big meals is hard on your boyd and humans are the only beings that eat only 3 times a day. He is fine... let him listen to his own body. If he is not getting alot of calarioes, the only thing you can do is make sure that they are healthy ones
