You just bought the dog so he isn't trained yet. Will the dog jump or is the dog smart enough to know he should not jump because it will hurt without you having to train him/her.

A puppy, if he sees something he wants, will jump. They aren't born with the sense not to jump. I would suggest only rolling down the windows part way, then beginning training. We trained our dogs to only have heads out the window. If we ever saw them put their feet up, we shouted OFF then closed the window. They learned.

Please make sure you don't let your dog hang his head out at high speeds--debris and bugs can cause terrible injuries to his head or eyes!

Yes, a dog WILL jump out the window.

My border jumped out at a stoplight just last week. The window was only about halfway down and he's a rather sizeable 45lb dog AND I even had his leash wrapped around my left arm. I didn't think he could do it, but sure enough in a flash he was out that window. Thank goodness he couldn't go far, since I was hanging onto the leash. And thank goodness we were stopped, rather than moving! I got him back in and that's the end of his open-window-front-seat existence.

I had been training him, as a previous person also mentioned, with a loud "OFF" whenever he put his feet on the window sill, but that apparently was not good enough. So he's now riding around in the backseat with the windows UP from now on. My sweetie's too important to me to risk on something as frivalous as an open window. =)

It depends on the dog. Some will, some won't. It has a LOT to do with personality, and if they think it will get them better off than with you. We were taking care of a dog for a friend once, and had her (the dog) for about 1 to 1 1/2 years. When Pepper was being taken back, she jumped out of the back of the pickup that was being used to take her back. The impact nearly killed her and she had to be put down. However, when we had her, she would never jump out until we had stopped, so we were very surprised to hear of it.

Once again, it all depends on the dog and their experiences.

Yes! Our dog would jump out of the window all the time, generally not when the car was going fast, but fast enough to cause him injuries. He never seemed to learn from it. We had to start driving with the windows most of the way up so he wouldn't jump out.

Which was weird because he was a really smart dog, otherwise.

It depends on the dog. I had a dog a few years ago that did jump out the window on a busy 3 lane rd. Luckily he didn't get hit. I was pulling out of a gas station and he ran back to the gas station. I don't trust any dog now. But I see dogs all the time hanging out windows or back of trucks. I would test your dog first to see. Be safe

It depends on the dog. My mothers Morkie jumped out of the truck one day. But the truck was not moving. Then you have my Pit she will not jump out of a car window, stopped or going. I would say don't leave your windows open enough for the dog to fit.

There is no might to the fact a dog will jump out of the car when it is moving. Fast or slow they will do it. I had one get banged up very badly doing it. My father had a prized poodle who would jump out and the fast you were going the more she wanted to do it. Train, forget it you cannot take the risk.

puppies and dogs will jump as they have no idea whats unsafe for them to do. never roll the window down enough that a dogs upper body can fit through as they can but not always jump out. dogs aredogs they dont know what can hurt , you have to keep your dog safe!! my neigbour took there little yorkie (star) out for a drive on the highway , she was sitting in the drivers lap he had his window down (very unsafe) and the poor thing decided to jump out , needless to say the little pup didnt survive. so caution is the word!!

Yes they might still jump. Honestly though it is not a good idea to let your dog stick their head out the window, although it is cute. The wind can cause problems with their eyes and ears.
