The main problem is that people will let the media make their decisions for them, rather than spend 15 minutes to read something for themselves.

If you were going to ask someone how to go skiing, wouldn't you ask a ski instructor?

Why then would you not ask a Muslim about information on Islam?

I feel the media is used to distort Islam mainly to scare people away from it. It's time Muslims speak up for themselves (ourselves). This country has a very nasty history of hating what is not White (Indians, Africans to name a few). It wasn't until 1964 that the Jim Crow laws were overturned by the Civil Rights Act. 1964. And the slaves brought here didn't practice Christianity, but Islam. What they practiced was whipped and beaten out of them. Now that Blacks are gravitating back to Islam, the media is used to spook them back into churches. Why do you think Blacks are still on probation for another 25 years to vote (27JUL2006 extention to vote)?

I think everybody can see attack on all religions and way of thinking, maybe you cannot see the others get attacked just as well because you feel attacked.
I wish I could see a more moderate side of Islam more often, I know it exists, but it is rarely shown and rarely talked about. Moreover I wish to see what Muslims think of moderate Islam, an Islam that is not afraid to interpret his text and not afraid to separate the civil law from religion.

... I'm trying to think of a way to put this without making the 1st person to answer you look really stupid.... there isn't. well on with it then. People like "dirty laundry". they like finding something they don't under stand and pick at it till they are bigger, better, and "Happier". most of the people who do this are in the group of Right wing Christians... not all but most. but lets take a step back when Islam was not in the pic. as big as it is now. Back when Cristian's were pulling friends and some times even family out to burn, or sending them to camps to work and starve, and be gassed to death. Meany forget the past to make now look REALLY BAD! but. to be truthful. all religions have blood on their hands. some more then others, but all in all we are human. not gods. we don't know everything. Also as humans we will always be looking for a wall to brake down. I hope this answered your question.

I'm a Christian, I don't hate/dislike Muslims, I just don't believe in all their beliefs as they don't believe in mine. Does that mean we have a right to judge/hurt each other? No. People have a hard time discerning between disagreeing verses fighting about it. We can agree to disagree without killing eachother. Unfortunantly the Christian faith has a lot of so called "followers" that don't live the true Christian life which makes the whole Christian community as a whole seem fake or ignorant. Muslims have the same issues with extremists that kill in the name of Allah. In other words, both faiths have people affiliated with us were not so proud of.

So why didn't you want us to read this?

The media is what is turning so many people against Islam. People are only shown the worst of it. And, since people are naturally egotistical, it is very easy to believe that Muslims are lesser, more violent people.

well it does have to do with political and cultural issues! the media will get some footage of something that happens in their neck of the woods and will be happy to reveal it! to be honest I am glad they do this - because I am not opposed to see what goes on in the world!

the real problem comes with the fact that in Iraq for example , insurgent just kill relentless any one from grandmas to children they blow up markets and mosques , they JUST DON'T CARE! in Afghanistan before the war the Taliban ruled with an iron fist killed many including women and girls in soccer fields oppression beyond our wildest dreams! they JUST DON'T CARE! terror all over the world in the name of Allah ! honor killings - barbaric customs - so many poor women of all ages slaughtered - this is not what many of us feel is appropriate global behavior , if you will! the harsh laws of sharia imposing on all in the world! I would rather die then to submit to that! the list of things that are so brutal is endless! and I am not talking every day crime here like domestic violence rape and murder that happens all over the world! I am talking systematic extinguishing of life because of terrorists and fundamental believes! just look at Darfur or Somalia ! keeping their people in check and rather kill them then giving them a helping hand ! it is just unacceptable and nasty! for the common man it is difficult to deal with so much coming out of one culture alone ! it is difficult for me I can assure you! I try to stay open minded but it is very difficult at times!

I think that its ignorance to dislike Muslims...Those who dislike others because of different beliefs and call themselves CHristians or claim they love god to me in my opinion are hypocrites and ignorants..."they can not love god if they do not love their brothers.." to those who are hating...like those above me.. hmm its the BUSH"S FAULT not the Islam follower's faults... if it was up to them we'd be out of there already.. Plus...its the society thats causing the problems..not the religion. JUSt respect..

the media is everyone's favorite whipping-boy.

but it's time for people to demand better, read more (and varying sources).

TV news is ratings-based, so it gets perverted towards sensatinoalism, it is true... but only because we let it!
