maybe he didn't try to solve the problem because he knew the family wouldn't listen. if his family is truly at fault, they're not likely to want to listen to common sense. however, if you or your family are at fault in his eyes, he didn't try to solve the problem because he doesn't think there should be one.

at any rate, it's possibly better that you didn't get married, because when you get married, you're instantly a part of that family and have to mold (at least in a little sense) to what the other person prefers... and usually people prefer what they were raised with. even if he did completely agree with you on everything (highly unlikely... believe me, i'm married! :P) your families wouldn't get along and that would be a constant strain on the relationship. thankfully, i have wonderful in-laws. i don't know what i would do if they were any different.

It is probably that this person loves you but the question would be: Does he loves you the right way? Marriage requires a lot of work and getting into one-side marriage will be grounds for divorce in the future. This experience will only make you wiser and cautious for the next one. Love itself is not enough because unnurtured love fades away.
A person that loves you the right way should have the following characteristics: responsibility, commitment, loyalty, integrity, sensitivity, strong and open communication and above all should never hide from problems or misunderstandings and protect you at all times. You should have this characteristics as well.
You will have a brighter future.

Problem: You took this decision because you thought he was nice, was you first reason for becoming engaged. Marriage requires a advanced level of maturity and love to work.

Perhaps you did not consider this decision well enough.

Be strong. If he truely loved you he would have fought harder to keep you and make you happy. Sell the ring and try to move on. Good luck, your in my prayers. lol

the only thing that should have mattered was if you two were happy, who cares about anything else.
