How do you know if you have the lastest version of Windows live messenger?

Go to the "Help" tab of your messenger. It should have a link labeled "About Messenger". Click that and it will say the version and build number. I think that 8.1 is the newest version.

when it's not the newest version, it will automatically prompt u to upgrade to the newest version once u sign in
