I'm 5 feet and 5 or 6 inches tall, and 185 pounds. I want to lose weight and count my calorie intake. How many calories should I have a day to lose weight?

Thanks!

PS. I also exersize at least 4 times a week.

to lose 2lbs a week which is more then enough you need to eat around 1200 if you eat to little you wont lose weight as your body will go into starvation mode and you metabolism will slow down, when it does this you wont burn fat fast but you will lose muscle. keep carbs (bread, pasta etc) to daytime meals that way you get energy through the day and you will burn it off before bedtime. try not to eat 2 hours before bedtime. always eat breakfast it kick starts the metabolism in the morning porridge, wheetabix, museli are all good as they fill you up.

Females should not go under 1200 calories a day and males 1800. I count my calories as well and try to stay about 2000 a day. What I would suggest is count what you eat now. Then reduce from there. Working out enables you to have more calories, but you still want to take in less to lose weight. Don't go for the instant satisfaction either. Take your time losing weight were you can make new habits and be able to stick with them. Discovery Channel health network has a lot of great resources to help you find the ideal amount of calories for your body to take in. I would imagine if you Start by cutting back to 1600 you will lose weight. Then see how that goes and reduce from there. Just remember to be healthy and not starve your body.

If you have around 1200 a day and maybe exersize 1 every day you should healthily lose steady weight.

A wonderful resource that is FREE is sparkpeople.com They have an on-line thing that will offer you how many calories you need to burn/ eat to lose in a certain amount of time. That said, I'm a member of Weightwatchers and I recommend them above everyone else for support and teaching you how to "keep it off." Good luck!
