By doing one or both of the following. First study in a French Class, the other is to go live in France for a year and study there. Berlitz has some good (but expensive) courses in
conversational French.I was lucky, My Grandmother was Frenceh and spoke to me in French all the time.

Study and use flashcards. Also since so many things are translated in French here you can read product labels even if you do not understand everything you are exposing yourself to it more frequently to the language without feeling like you are constantly studying. Keep a small notebook with all of the recent vocab you need to learn and you can also write words that you want to learn and later look them up when you have a chance.
A very good tool that I picked up learning Korean is write a biography or a self introduction in English or your native language. Translate as much as you can and get it graded or get someone to look at it to make sure it is correct. As your vocab expands rewrite it and keep on adding newer vocab and get it graded. Since it is personal for you it will make the vocab easier for you to memorize. Also write as much as you can in a journal everyday. It really helps. Good luck.

Some people say that the best way to learn a language is complete immersion into the environment. If it's in the budget, try taking a nice vacation to France.

Or get a Online tudor.
If you don't want to go out.
Know a friend that knows French?
Ask to Learn.
If you don't, ask your friends if they have any French friends that speak French or if they just speak French.

Most colleges will have a course that ou can inroll in if you want to become fluent someday. If all you want to know is the bare minimum to survive, you could try getting a software program like Berlitz or the Rosetta Stone.

You might try a language school in your area. If not, try some materials from a library or bookstore and find someone who speaks it who is willing to help you learn.
