At my wedding I wore a HUGE Eve of Millady dress with a 25 foot train....I knew I would not be able to walk around in that thing! I also bought a Maggie Sottero destination wedding dress that was pretty inexpensive, but still very nice and wore that after the pictures, thank you line and dinner. That way I was able to walk around and talk to people, dance and carry on at the reception. Plus it made me feel a lot better knowing that my expensive dress did not chance having anything spill on it, or having it drag around on the ground all night. I know at Davids bridal they have some very nice but inexpensive bridesmaids dresses that you can order in white and no one would know that it was not a second wedding dress.

When I got married in 1978, it was still traditional to change into a going away outfit after the cake was cut and all pictures taken. Try to find a pretty sundress in white or the colors used for the wedding. If you don't find something within a reasonable amount of time, go to a seamstress or friend/relative and have one made. There are many lovely patterns that would suit your needs. Keep the dress simple but use a beautiful fabric.

I see you got your dress at David's - check out their destination wedding style dresses. If they have something you like, then there are several websites that offer those dresses cheaper... www.houseofbrides.com is a good one.
Also, I'd look at prom dresses. You can usually find something a little more casual for around $100.
Another option is to have someone make a dress for you. Depending on your size and what fabric you choose, you could easily have a dress for around $60.
I know a lot of girls that have gotten great dresses off ebay - also, on Yahoo Groups there are some good wedding groups that usually have sales on dresses.
Good luck!

First off, gorgeous dress :) A pretty white slip dress will great, there should be many Spring lines coming out if not out already. Another options? Get something made, it's not always ridiculously high if you know someone or find someone you trust. This way, you can get it designed similarly to your gown, perhaps repeat the sleeve style but in a lighter more casual fabric and style.

What I would do is go to dessy.com. They have informal wedding dresses that are just georgeous and maybe that would be nice for you. Make sure that the dress is still white though, as you are still the bride. No pants, no shorts, no hillbilly junk like you said. This is your wedding and even if you change into a different dress, you still want it to be elegant.

I love your dress first off, I am getting married also and I have been thinking the same thing. I have even been thinking about getting a dress like the one that my bridesmaids are wearing to match them while they pictures are still being taken. I am having a black and silver wedding and I was thinking of getting the same dress the bridesmaids are wearing but in the oppsite color that the girls are wearing. It's an idea to throw out to you. Good Luck!

Why can't you just wear the dress all night? If you're gonna spend the money on it you might as well wear it. It doesn't look that heavy and if that's the problem than you should get a different dress. I personally don't like it when the bride changes.

Very pretty, pretty gown! Why in the world would you WANT to change out of it before you fall into bed? Gee, you only have one day to wear the dress, so wear it all night. The days of having a going-away outfit are long gone....

JCrew should have a nice spring/summer collection of dresses. I got my bride's maid's dresses there and my wedding was on the beach in Jamaica.
