Block haddock from super markets is not the same taste as I get from haddock bought at my local fish monger. I stay near Pittenweem in FIfe.

block haddock normally sold in cube form if this is what you are talking about is all the offal or **** as i call it compressed into block form and then bandsawed into cubes .i doubt it tastes very nice! now the other form of block is ,frozen at sea into blocks which should taste superb as this is caught ,then filleted, and frozen (within hours of being caught) into a block, this is technically fresher than fresh fish as it has not been sat around on deck for a week then landed on some fish market then transported to a supermarket a few days later !

It is the same taste it is just more chunky it is usually the middle bit of the fish it is the best piece , as tail is bonier an head end is quiet thin , it can be frozen as well but you can get it fresh but you pay a bit more .
