I don't think there's a cure for those people, but I find them so annoying.

People who laugh at their own dumb jokes are typically too self-absorbed to take a hint about how they really are. With people like that, you literally have to look them straight in the eye and tell them that they are not the least bit funny. It sounds mean, I know, but all too often it is the only thing that works. Give them a specific example of what it was that you did not like- maybe there was racism in a given joke, or perhaps it was just plain annoying. Whatever you do, do NOT pretend to like their "humor"- it will only encourage them to repeat their obnoxious behavior with you.

I know how you feel, and I'm in the same situation! It's my boss and I think she does it unconciuosly. I just smile and listen, sometimes I feel like I should be laughing but it's absolutely not funny in any way. I don't know if you could actually do anything to stop it, unless ofcourse you don't care about his/her feelings. Cause you could easily say "That's not funny, why are you laughing?" It could just be nervous energy.

Stop hanging out with such dorks. Kidding...sort of. Nah, they really can't help it and there's no sense in trying to change people you try to avoid anyway. Some people just have different sense of humor and even though it's annoying there's not much you can do but continue using not-so-subtle body language that shows that their jokes are not well-received.

Ok i have someone in my class that does the exact same thing, I am pretty good friends with him but he is annoying me with that so what i do is I just don't laugh at all , they tend to notice it and stop.
Best way though would be to just tell them.

Laugh so hard don't stop until they take a hint. If they are annoying you, you annoy them more then they can bare. Talk to them and don't let them get a word in then laugh and laugh then they will think your annoying and you won't have to avoid them anymore, they will be avoiding you!

Maybe these people are so happy & excited about life that they find laughter in a lot of things.
Avoiding them or ignoring them when they do this is really all you can do.
I don't understand where the etiquette question comes in though.

Point it out...
"you know you just laughed at your own joke".
And they will be embarrassed enough to not do it in the future.
