I recently resigned from my job as an executive assistant. I work out of more than one office and one office prepared a huge lunch for me, made me tres leches from scratch and got me a gift card to the mall. It was so thoughtful and I didn't expect it because I haven't even been with this company a year. I really want to send them a thank you card after I leave but I am stuck on what to say. What they did really surprised me in a good way and I thought it was really touching, I'm just crappy at putting this kind of stuff into words! Any suggestions?

I would also like to send a seperate thank you note to my boss. Even though I'm not that close to him, it just seems appropriate given the fact that I'm sending one to this other office. Anything you guys could offer on that would help too!

Thank you notes are best when they are simple and straight from your heart. Say that you were overwhelmed by their support and that you'll miss them and really appreciated all they did everyday as well as the great send off. Keep it short and sweet and they'll love it.

Thank you notes are tricky because after you write out the actual words "thank you," you still have to fill a card with words to avoid looking abrupt. I usually just start with, "Thank you so much for the wonderful ______ you gave me." Then I just slather on the thank you's in different words! "I can't tell you how grateful I am for your support as I begin my new career." Or, try "I was really touched that you thought of me. I appreciate how special you made the entire evening." Then, be sure to add at least one personal sentence, like "The tres leches were to die for! I especially loved those." Don't forget to mention the gift card by saying something like, "I never expected the gift card you all sent. It will help me so much as I build my new career wardrobe/nursery/homeoffice, etc."

For the office that gave you a party and gift you should just say something like..thank you so much for your very thoughtful and generous send off. I truly enjoyed working with you all and I wish everyone the best.

As for your boss you should definately give him a thank you and just say that you were glad you got the opportunity to work with him and wish him the best.

Short and sweet is best. Good luck.
