About a week ago I got a 4 month old yellow lab, he sleeps alot and is not vey active. His appetite is good, he does not have worms and he is using the bathroom pretty good. I am concerned also because everyone tells me he is too small for his age he weighs 15 lb now.

I would check with your vet. A phone call should do it so you fdon't have to pay for an office visit. If you don't have a vet, I would find one. They are a great resource.

I have a 2 year old lab and he's just about 100 lbs. he's a big boy even the vet feels he's a healthy weight for his size. First of all.....don't worry too much about your lab puppy sleeping TOO much when he gets older, you'll be wishing he sleeps more! lol Second, yeah, 15 lbs. does sound a little under weight but he might just be a runt or a "late" bloomer. Call your vet so you don't have to pay for a visit unless they want to see him if they haven't already. It might just be as simple as increasing the amount of food you are giving him or changing his food to something that might have more nutrients. Whatever you do, do not give him anything with alot of corn stick to the chicken, or lamb and rice foods.

at 4 months my blue heeler was 22lbs... Being that you have a Lab. I would say definitely he is under weight.. Labs are very active dogs. Especially as puppies... Puppies do require a lot of sleep tho.. From what I have learned on Animal Planet..:) Are you positive there are no worms... ??? Watch him for labored breathing.... And if it is really bothering you how much he sleeps and lays around, I would contact my vet and start asking questions or make an appt....Who knows, it could be he is just a lazy dog..;) Good luck!!!

Is he a mixed breed, if so that might account for the weight, but if he is a full lab something is wrong. I have always had a lab, raised from a pup, ( 2 were runts) and that is too small for his age. He will sleep a lot, but usually just short naps, not all the time-You need to take him in and have him checked.

Puppies are like babies, they need alot of sleep. Don't worry about that he will get more active as he gets older. What type of food are you feeding him? I would ask your vet to recommend something. Or you may just want to try increasing he food alittle to be sure he is getting full enough. What some dogs eat may not be enough for all dogs, because of different appetites, etc. But he is probably just running off most of what he eats when he is playing...As long as he isn't losing weight don't worry... One more thing, do you supplement his food with treats?

What does the vet say about his weight? First of all, dogs sleep ALOT. Puppies do too. But do you play with him and walk him frequently? If he is hanging around the house alot sleeping he might be doing so because they do that if you're not engaging them- they're wating for you to say "let's get in the car" or "let's go for a walk!"...Otherwise, they're going to sleep and wait for that call...I think he's pretty small personally, but again, ask your vet- I can't see your dog and it's not enough information to go on. FYI: My dog (golden) weighed 11 pounds at about 8 weeks.

Have you had him to the vet yet? If not I would take him in for his first check up. Remember A pup is like a baby, they do sleep a lot. Good luck with your new boy , and I doubt that there is something serious wrong with him.

I would certainly contact the vet with your concerns, but I also wonder if the dog is all lab? Is there a chance he could be mixed with another breed?

I would definitely bring him to the vet. He may not have as much energy as other labs which is fine. But his weight is what would concern me...15lbs seems very small for that breed.

Where did you get him...breeder, shelter, etc??

he's still a baby. he should be o.k. but maybe you should check with his vet to make sure he's healthy. My Lab is 8 months and he loves to nap. Napping helps the puppy grow. Maybe you could consider changing his food to see if it will give him more energy and pick up his weight.
