Hi PinUpGirl!
Coughing can be due to an extremely minor problem - no more than drinking water too fast - or it can be the first sign of serious problems of the lungs or heart. You gives a poor info about your problem. I recommend to look article: http://www.askedweb.com/askedweb/Dog_Cough/ - to find the cause of a problem.
It may be Kennel cough, Tonsillitis, Tooth and Mouth Infections, Collapsed Trachea, Migrating Hook and Roundworm Larva, Allergies and Irritants, Heartworm Disease....
I would recommend a thorough examination by your veterinarian. This will help detect any developing health problems as early as possible.

No concern,Puppies are just learning to explore so they sniff and bite at everything in site .My puppy loves to chew on her moms neck and always comes away with a mouthful of fur and always starts coughing because she always seems to swallow some.Sneezing is from the dust particles that they sniff in .If it is a persistant cough or sneeze (I mean days not a few here and there) then you may want to call the vet because then they may have allergies that need to be treated.
Enjoy tthe Puppy ,you will encounter several odd or questionable things along the way just as the puppy does .Life is a road of learning .

Not to sound mean or anything but, do you go to the doctor everytime you cough or sneeze? It is a common thing in dogs to sneeze and cough. They also do something called reverse sneezing which if you have never heard can sound awful. If your dogs begins to do this (it sounds like they are choking) all the time then it would be time to see a vet.

No just like humans, dogs will sneeze... now as for coughing, if it is similar to a hacking, that could mean they have something stuck in their throat and could be cause for concern

my dogs often cough and sneeze when dust or fuzzies from the carpet get inhaled through their noses. You don't have to take then to the vet for this unless it occurs a lot then she may have allergies...

It's normal, I wouldn't worry about it. They cough and sneeze, just like we do.

They have pretty much all the same bodily functions as us. Hopefully, your dog is not a big farter. Some dogs' farts will run you out of the room, lol!

They get their little snouts into everything because they are so curious and everything is new to them. It could be as simple as a piece of lint or dust.
