Do not smoke for 48 hours! If you smoke, you WILL get a dry socket because the chemicals in the smoke get into the saliva and dissolve the clot. Even worse, the continued smoking irritates the bone in the socket and the dry socket will be especially painful and persistent. If you have ever had a dry socket, you will do ANYTHING to avoid another one.

I'd say, the removal of a tooth in comparison with ending up with emphysema or cancer of the mouth, throat or lungs, is a small inconvenience to go through - blood clot, and dry sockets as a result of the extraction.
Your question is both a paradox and a contradiction.
Deal with your conundrum with more profound comprehension of your situation.
Your question, unbeknown to you is telling you : STOP SMOKING, BEFORE SOMETHING REALLY SERIOUS OCCURS AS A CONSEQUENCE!!!

this could be a good opportunity for you to quit smoking, especially since you can't do it for a few days anyway. but if you don't care and insist on continuing with it, i'd wait until the blood clot is gone and the wound is practically healed. that way you aren't taking any chances.

I would wait at least 48 hours if not a little longer until it is more healed. You could get otherwise a really nasty, nasty infection!!!! This might be the time to quit smoking by the way.....

Wait about the rest of your life. Take it from me: My grandad died from lung cancer, and the threat of others losing somone to smoking constantly hangs over me. Don't go back to smoking, this could be your big oppurtunity.

Smoking will never help you. It causes cancer, emphysema and awhole lot of other stuff! It DOESN'T make you cool and hurts the people around you, too.
