You can refrigerate it or freeze it, whatever is most convenient for you.
Be sure to wrap it well so that air cannot get in and dry out the cake. Wrap it in a couple of layers of plastic wrap, aluminum foil or both. If freezing, use freezer or parchment paper as the inside layer (touching the cake); these will not stick to the cake when you unwrap it.
It will be easier to frost a frozen or refrigerated cake; the cake will hold its shape better and you are less likely to get crumbs in the frosting when you ice a cake when it is cold.
From the Pillsbury Complete Cookbook re: freezing cakes:
Unfrosted cakes can be frozen 4-6 months. Thaw at room temperature, covered, 2 to 3 hours.

I personally would wait to bake and ice it on Saturday. If you've ever been to the grocery, they never store their cakes in the fridge unless they are ice cream cakes or cheesecakes. Based on that and personal experience, I would never put a cake in the fridge for any period of time.

Definitely, but beware of the ingredients in your cake. If it has any cream or frosting on the inside, it is more likely to spoil. But generally speaking, if you use plastic wrap, it could last for as long as five days.

Yes you can refrigerate it. I will put mine in foil as soon as I get it out of the pans and put it in the freezer till I am ready to frost it. It will freeze it and keep moisture in as well as want tare up while frosting it.

It would probably be more safe to freeze it. Also easier to frost. You won't have the sticky cake sticking to everything as you are icing it.

Freeze it, then it is easier to cut inhalf if you want to layer it. Also, put some simple syrup onit, with a touch of liquor (pick a flavor to match teh cake). That is an old Pastry Chef trick.

It should be covered and sealed. If you have a frost free frig it will dry out even if just left over night.
