Shouldn't it just be in the 'hands of god'? And wouldn't you want to go to heaven? So why make such an effort to extend your earthly lives?

If by "fundies" you mean Christians, then why shouldn't they seek out medical attention???
We live to show God's love and character to others, and to be there for our friends and families. Our reward is not always in this life!
God uses the hands, and wisdom, of doctors to heal people.
Doctors do God's work on Earth.

Tell me, when the A Bombs fall or the Tornado comes or the Earthquake happens or the Hurrican hits, and you say, please let me live, WHO, exactly, are you talking to! Yourself!
It is a FACT that sooner or later EVEYRONE talks to GOD, because when all else fails WHO DO YOU HAVE TO TALK TO!
Every man fears for his life in times of need. When there is no one else there, you talk to that which is not there in the hopes that maybe you can escape the inevitable.

I have a friend right now who has refused his cancer treatment because he knows that God will either a) not heal him and he dies and goes to heaven, or b) God heals him and he lives many more years. Either way, he wins.

We do not commit suicide,we have family's to look after.I will
not prolong my life by any artificial means.no transplants, no life support etc.when God calls I will go.
