You can say it the medical/scientific way you stated above. True for the most part. But maybe we need to look at the sociological look on this.

New ideas usually spawn from necessity. We need things to work the way we want, so we have an idea of how to accomplish the task at hand. You need light? Invent the light bulb. You need to Solve a relationship problem? Buy flowers. An idea comes in many forms on many different subjects, but they are ideas none the less.
