Taking gelatin for strong nails is a myth. Try prenatal vitamins...makes your hair and nails grow like crazy and skin glow, too!

you can buy just plain gelatin, like jello mix. You can mix with water and drink, it will make your hair and nails grow. And another thing newly found for me, we have horses, and while at a tack shop, I noticed this stuff called hoof-alive. They use this on horse hooves, but is also recommended for fingernails and other things. It is relatively inexpensive and a small tub will last a very long time, as you only apply per instructions, every other day.....at night when you go to bed.

OPI Nail Envy works really well but one thing about it is on the box it tells you to keep coating your nails with it every other day. I talked to my nail tek about this and she said to apply the first two coats leave it on for a week and then take it off. Dont reapply it for a few days to let your nails absord the lotions and things you put on. After a few days reapply two coats and repeat the process for as long as you want to. The other thing, and it sounds funny, but Clinique Super Balm works really good on nails. Its a lip balm but if you take a little dab and rub it on the nail and the cuticle it prevents hang nails and it seems to make nails stronger. I think any lip treatment would work. Give it a shot! :)

Do you take a multivitamin? If you don't, you might check with your doctor about starting one since so many vitamins and minerals play a part in nail health. Taking a vitamin won't give you mega-talons, but it will help your nails in their general overall health, and if you've got a deficiency that's preventing them from growing correctly, nothing else you do is going to work until that's corrected...

Gelatin, garlic and prenatal vitamin. I have brittle nails myself. My nails were long, and strong. But house shores, for some reason made them brittle. I started to take prenatal it does work. My hair is shinny and down my waist. Garlic works too, but the smell is embarrassing. Ask your doctor, I did.

The usual treatment is to add gelatin to your diet - it doesn't have to be Jello or sweetened.

If they're weak, it may be the sign of a mineral deficiency. Have your MD check your blood.

Sally's long and strong nail polish is okay I guess, but I've heard that rubbing garlic on your nails every night works great! (weird...but you should try it!)
