Whether you took Ativan 10 minutes ago or 20, it still has to go through part of your GI tract. If you took it on an empty stomach, it may take only 30 minutes to take effect. You will lose about 40% of the med to digestion. Do your deep breathing and imaging to control the anxiety until the med kicks in. You can do this. Breathe slowly, deeply. Close your eyes and picture that peaceful, safe place and see yourself water skiing or walking on the beach.

You have to give it more than 10 min. to fully work. If you had a panic attack, you have already took your meds, so sit down and relax and get off Yahoo for awhile!! And do some breathing in and out. I take Xanax but they are about the same. If it isn't fully gone in an hour or so call you Dr. and see if you can take another one.

Important information

You should not use Ativan if you have narrow-angle glaucoma or myasthenia gravis, or if you are allergic to Valium or a similar medicine.
Do not use lorazepam if you are pregnant. This medicine can cause birth defects or life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in a newborn.
Lorazepam may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Misuse of habit-forming medicine can cause addiction, overdose, or death. Ativan should never be shared with another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it.
Do not drink alcohol while taking Ativan. Lorazepam can increase the effects of alcohol.

bad reaction to the drug, you may need less than the prescribed dosage, or another drug. contact your doctor if this persists.
