I have this desire to end my life, like I can't wait a few more years. It's not necessarily because I'm miserable (although I do think I am depressed). I just want to die.

Well, it's certainly not normal to want to die, especially if you're not suffering pain or emotional anguish. All living things are programmed to want to stay alive as long as possible.

Consider seeing someone very soon. You might have a chemical imbalance that causes depression. Depression is different in many people, for the most part you'll likely be feeling abject hopelessness or absolute apathy (sounds like the latter to you). Chemical balances don't necessarily last forever, especially with treatment.

A person treated for depression often has a feeling of awakening to life; he may soon look back and wonder why he ever wanted to die.

You don't say how old you are. However, I know quite a few people who have outlived their spouses, friends and a good part of their families. These people feel that they are ready to leave this earth and rejoin their loved ones.

Some people don't seem to get any breaks and things go from bad to worse, these people want to give up also.

Please seek some consoling and hopefully someone can guide you to feeling that you have some useful purpose left.

I have severe depression, but ive been on medication for 2 years now and it helps sooo much. I attempted suicide twice. After doing it though you will realize how greatful you are for having life. Talk to a doctor, like a psychiatrist. Im glad im not dead.

You need to find some help.

This is a sign of depression - and is very serious. Please, depression isn't a weakness of character like some people think - it's a problem with the chemicals in your brain. (Insulin diabetics aren't bad people, are they? This is something that you have a genetic predisposition for - not a personality flaw like some members of society want to view it.)

Please please please - go find a doctor you can talk to who will work with you to find something that works for you. It may take a little time, but there are so many options available.

Hang in there.

I would say you might want to go to a psychiatrist. I really don't think this is normal.
