Stretchmarks -- or striae -- are caused when your skin needs to stretch rapidly over your enlarging body during pregnancy and ends up getting over-stretched. Stretchmarks can also occur during adolescence or periods of rapid weight gain. The resulting scars are permanent and are most common on the abdomen, buttocks, thighs and breasts.
Massaging creams, oils, or lotions into the skin will help it feel more supple. With time the lines fade to fine streaks closer to your own skin colour. What may look unacceptable to you at first will seem a whole lot better six months later!
You might want to try Avon's SuperShape. They have 100% money-back guarantee. This website is having a fundraiser http://avon.isnowonthe.net
The appearance of stretch marks may also be exaggerated by under-use of your muscles and any recent unaccustomed weight gain. Starting an exercise programme and aiming for a sensible diet will help you feel better about the affected areas of your body.
In extreme cases, plastic surgery may be possible, but it's important to discuss this thoroughly with your family doctor first.

Actually, nothing will get rid of them...Mary Kay has come out with a new Cellu-Shape Contouring System which is for cellulite and it evens the skin, I have used it for about 2 weeks on the stretch marks on my belly and even my doctor has commented on them...they are fading and seem to be more even!! I think it is great!!! Worth a try!!!

It's not guaranteed to work if your stretch marks are old, but you can try buying a daily moisturizer with an ingredient called "elastin", or something along the lines of that name. Apply it regularly to your skin, stretch marks or not. It helps prevent them too.

Try Mederma. It is over the counter and will lessen the appearance of stretch marks. Unfortunately, there is nothing that will make them go away completely, not even surgery (all surgery can do is get rid of loose skin; it will not get rid of the stretch marks). However, Mederma will make them less noticeable.

look up striae cream on the net. It works, but has its cons....it takes weeks to see results, its expensive, and you must be religious about applying and massaging the cream into your skin.
Otherwise, expensive laser surgery will work.

Nothing over the counter will help. Only surgery and is not 100% sure.
