You have every right to tell this guy that his actions and words aren't welcome. You shouldn't have to put up with stuff like that. If a man was being hit-on obnoxiously by a woman and he told her to stop, people would just think he stood up for himself, which is true and exactly what you did.
As long as you tried to tell him nicely at first, and then took progressivly more action, it's totally justified. I'm assuming you didn't make a scene and were totally professional about it as well, so kudos to you.

Good question, I would believe it's ppl who don't know the whole story. We are all judgmental. NO human is not without judging others no matter how hard we try NOT to. There has always been a difference of opinion to whether a woman is a b*tch/overly sensitive or self confident. Nothing any of us can do about it. Hopefully no one you knew said the negative, which would leave only the strangers thinking the worst. It's so much more exciting to think the lady telling that man to hit the road was just being a b*tch instead of thinking Hey, that guy is such a loser, he can't take a hint for nothing! So annoying!

The point is YOU felt uncomfortable by this guy hugging you. YOU did the right thing by telling him. There is no reason why you should have to suffer.
Have you ever heard a story you told get back to you? By the time it comes back so many facts have been lost that it's completely different. This is why people shouldn't believe everthing they hear. Good luck.

I think you had every right to say what you did to him since he didn't get the message the first or second time around. I do not feel that you were being bitchy or overly sensitive....

I have been through this many times. I know exactly what you're talking about.
If anyone is over-sensitive its those accusing you of it. First of all they were eavesdropping and don't know what the h*ll they're talking about. They took what they heard completely out of context, and were out of line to judge you.
You have every right to look out for yourself, and you should continue to do so!!! You don't need to explain anything to them, and I hope you didn't.

Some people are uncomfortable around a woman who speaks her mind. Don't let it bother you. Be glad you aren't a weakling who can't stand up for herself!
