Okay, I have thought this over throughly, and I still don't see why some Christians get so upset over homosexuality. I get that it is a sin, so is lying, swearing, and sloth, but you don't see nearly as many people getting all outraged about them. According to Christianity, we all sin, and all sins can be forgiven with the exception of blaspheming the holy spirit. Jesus spoke about not judging and not pointing out other people's sin alot. He said judge not lest ye be judged, let he who is without sin throw the first stone, and to take the log out of your own eye before you pick the speck of sawdust out of your brother's. So, why do I see alot of Christians going around preaching about how evil homosexuality is, and making it out to be a more horrible in than the rest of the sins? Don't these people also sin, what makes their sins any better? What gives them the right to point out someone else's sin, when according to their own religion, everyone is a sinner?

Actually, Hinduism and Buddhism both accept homosexuality. I have talked to 4 muslims from Indonesia, Turkey, Bosnia, and America about homosexuality, and they all agree that it is a sin but that it is not their place to judge or condemn. I am also inolved in Hillel, and the Jewish community at my colledge sees it as a sin, but they also do not promote persecution of homosexuals. The vast majority of intolerance is coming from the Christian right...

The Bible says its a sin... you already know that. However, the Bible also says that what God said, preachers ought to preach. Therefore, preachers across the nation who are fundamentalists (like my family and myself) MUST preach against it. This is why fundamental preachers get all over it. But, the main reason the rest of us get upset with it is simply because, yes, its a sin, but mostly because it is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING and ABHORRANT. Yes, God sees sin as a sin, lying is as bad as murder in God's eyes. But, Christian followers find some sins more abhorrant than others; homosexuality being one of them.

Good question. I have been asking this for years. They find verses they agree with and use them and the ones they do not agree with throw them out the window and say they are outdated...But imo its mostly due to lack of knowledge of their own book..
Lets see according to the bible it is a sin to..
1. cut your hair.
2. eat certian foods.
3. adultry.
4. wearing more then one type of material. so look at how many wear 50/50 shirts..
5. swearing.
6. murder.
7. incest.. but yet abraham was one of gods top men.
Here is a part of an article I found on a website...
Most people have not carefully and prayerfully researched the biblical texts often used to condemn God's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender children.
As you may know, biblical ignorance is an epidemic in the United States. A recent study quoted by Dr. Peter Gomes in The Good Book found that 38 percent of Americans polled were certain the Old Testament was written a few years after Jesus' death. Ten percent believed Joan of Arc was Noah's wife. Many even thought the epistles were the wives of the apostles.
This same kind of biblical ignorance is all too present around the topic of homosexuality.
many Christians don't know that:
Jesus says nothing about same-sex behavior.
The Jewish prophets are silent about homosexuality.
Only six or seven of the Bible's one million verses refer to same-sex behavior in any way -- and none of these verses refer to homosexual orientation as it's understood today.
The Bible is a book about God -- not a book about human sexuality.
The Bible is the story of God's love for the world and the people of the world. It tells the history of God's love at work rescuing, renewing, and empowering humankind. It was never intended to be a book about human sexuality.
the Bible accepts sexual practices that we condemn and condemns sexual practices that we accept.
DEUTERONOMY 22:13-21
If it is discovered that a bride is not a virgin, the Bible demands that she be executed by stoning immediately.
DEUTERONOMY 22:22
If a married person has sex with someone else's husband or wife, the Bible commands that both adulterers be stoned to death.
MARK 10:1-12
Divorce is strictly forbidden in both Testaments, as is remarriage of anyone who has been divorced.
LEVITICUS 18:19
The Bible forbids a married couple from having sexual intercourse during a woman's period. If they disobey, both shall be executed.
MARK 12:18-27
If a man dies childless, his widow is ordered by biblical law to have intercourse with each of his brothers in turn until she bears her deceased husband a male heir.
DEUTERONOMY 25:11-12
If a man gets into a fight with another man and his wife seeks to rescue her husband by grabbing the enemy's genitals, her hand shall be cut off and no pity shall be shown her.
Also when are people going to come up with something new besides the "its adam and eve not adam and steve" bs??

It's not so much that several of these individuals think it's a more horrible sin then others as much as they do not want to see it condoned. And being that there is a huge battle of gay rights in America, it seems more prominent than what most of us are used to. To be honest, I am a homosexual male and I am overwhelmed by the shortened time-frame that it’s been taking to gain rights of equality, especially when you compare it to the length of other battles over slavery and women's rights. However, if we are as a population really growing at an exponential rate, than it would be understood why the gay rights movement is moving at such a rapid pace.
To bring it back down to your question in all fairness, these other "sins" you are discussing aren't being forced to become legalized. For example, (putting aside dishonest lawyers and criminals) you don't see adultery and lying trying to become alright to do on a regular basis. Generally, most of us are still taught that lying is just plain wrong, regardless of your religious background even if you aren’t religious.
That doesn't mean I condone some of the behaviors that extremists take to solve this issue. It seems now that more money is being spent by the Christian Coalition to stop homosexuality from being legal than there is money going to children who need food and homes. Which correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that the opposite effect that Jesus was trying to preach? Truth be told, if you stand by your faith and claim Christianity than you should be spending more time helping those who ask for it and less time trying to stick it to these so-called "satanic sins”. Especially since 9 times out of 10, if you are going to commit this act...no religion, law or system of belief is going to stop that.
Now I can't believe I am going to say this but I am going to give the extremists who think homosexuals are going to hell a little advice. Everyday individuals are born with the choice to see others the way the want to, regardless of what they are taught. And at this moment, one of the many reason's gays and lesbians are winning the "war" for their rights is because rather than lashing back...they are proving they can be civil human beings and still do good for our society, even when it comes to raising children. So when a group of extremely religious figures go out of their way to bash, destroy and corrupt others to prove a point, they are generally going to look like the bad guy in an equation where they were trying to come off as the good one.

I suspect that those who're making the stink feel one or more of the following.
A) Threatened by a lifestyle they may feel drawn to but do not wish to give in to.
B) Are "going with the flow" in hopes of garnering votes from the religious right.
C) Are scared spitless they're going to be "outed" and lose everything they hold dear.
D) Because their own lives are so yucky, anybody they can put down they hope will make them look better by comparison.
E) Pride has done a number on them and if they are forgiving they're afraid that they will accounted among the gay when they are not gay.
F) Scripture does not excoriate homosexuals per se, but it DOES specifically forbid homosexual ACTIVITY. Gays are frequently seen publicly being sexual to one degree or another. For these people then to go to some Christian church and claim that they are Christians is the height of hypocrisy and a lot of Christians resent this as it gives their faith a bad name.
G) Enough?

You are correct that sin is sin no matter how big or small.Christians do not hate gay people, they hate the sin. When society accepts a sin as being OK...It makes it seem less a sin to others. When perversion is made into an Illness,it gives it an "excuse".
Lets loOK at this logically:
In the Bible---God made female for the male.He says for this reason shall a man leave his father and mother and Cleve to a wife.
The male and female body fit together perfectly.
In procreation, the male fertilises the egg and the female carries the child and births it.
Male to male can not do any of this:
Male to male have to use places that are to rid our bodies of impurities...
Male to male has been a large reason HIV ( AIDS ) has spread so quickly.
A killer decease simply because one chooses to go where no man should go.
If male to male were a natural state there would be none of these things going on.
The Human race today is so into the what ever feels good do it stage. They said the 70's were bad. Because people can not be controlled they feel if they legalise it, things will be ok.
This world is asking for trouble, destroying itself and everyone is just sitting around saying ---Yeah,Its OK...No problem. If it feels good do it...
For those of you who do not believe....GOD IS COMING BACK SOON. THESE ARE THE END TIMES...

I think the problem is doing it over and over until it's an endless cycle and the bible considers it an Abomination which I guess is bigger then any ordinary sin but I really don't understand why they seriously get upset about homosexuality.. god gave us freewill.. it's their chose.
GeneJohn: It's not a sin to eat Shellfish, it was a part of the Jewish diet because of health reasons.. The bible later denounced that and told us to eat whatever we like.

Well... first there's the major "ick" factor, because some people just think everything's ONLY about SEX, and fail to recognize anything further.
Secondly, there's the factor you have to weigh in that most anti-gay rhetoric usually comes from hetero males who generally always sexually objectify women (especially in the "rights to breeding" mode of marriage) and think that everyone else does the same and if it's GAY men... well... see my first point.
Then there's the concept of EGO, where if they can't dominate it sexually for breeding rights (hetero males usually) or use it to fulfill their sexual fantasies, etc. then it's an "abomination". To further the concept of ego... some hetero males incorrectly think that they're somehow the "target" of gay men, which is usually an overblown ego...
Shall I continue? The ones who are mostly homophobic usually like to use religion as their weapon of choice in order to further their ego-ridden agenda, and LOVE the quotes about how animals and humans are separate because of our ability to CHOOSE (as if the concept of singular breeding right to ONE WOMAN isn't animalistic...) oh I could go on for hours... I'll stop now, you get the idea..

It is not just Christianity that condemns homosexuality, every religion in this world condemns it, there are some that simply tolerate homosexuality more than others that's all, so quit pointing the finger at just one religion, do some research go and ask all religious denominations their response to homosexuality, you will be stunned at what some of them would like to do to those that practise homosexuality, maybe you better not ask, it may make you sick to your stomach at what some religions would do to them if it was allowed.
