I have 2 bulging discs in my lower back and sometimes suffer from sciatica. I am somewhat overweight, and am trying to lose the weight. I have had some success with low carb dieting, but have had an interesting "side effect." while dieting, I will have severe bouts of sciatica and back pain. As soon as I stop "low carbing" and eat regularly, the pain goes away. I started low carbing Monday morning and by Monday afternoon was in agony. This past Tuesday I decided to try eating regular food, and halfway through a "regular" meal, the pain went away. I haven't had pain since. It may be just a coincidence, but it has happened both times I've low carb dieted in the past 3 years.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that your body is trying to trick you into eating refined carbs. The pain should reduce considerably once you have lost some weight. Try eating complex carbs only and see if it still happens.
