I am going through that same thing, but I am choosing private for my 3 year old. for one thing the public school charges 150 a week for their preschool program, while the private school is only 245 a month! needless to say i am going with what is more economicable.

I went to a Catholic Private School my whole life. I am not religious and neither is my family but it really didn't interfere with how I was treated as a student at all. My high school had a 98% graduation rate, 99% of my graduating class went to college. I never saw any fights. I never saw anyone bring weapons to school. The school had its normal teenage curiosity issues, like trying drugs or alcohol but it wasn't rampant and I never knew anyone that let it go beyond trying once or twice. Oh, and no teen pregnancy since long, long before I even started high school.

I think that a private school, religious or not is the way to go. There is so much more emphasis on education, etiquette and preparing you for success in a private school. Also, I've noticed a drastic difference in the demeanor and sometimes character between a person who attended private school and someone who attended a public school....they're much more eloquent, polite and ambitious. If you find one that is affordable, definitely take advantage of it.

I went to both. I went to a private Catholic school from pre-k through Eighth grade. I really liked the school. Oh, and I am not Catholic either. I'm a Lutheran, and there were differences but it wasn't bad at all. Once I graduated from eighth grade I went to a public high school. The private school did not have a high school so I had no choice but to transfer.

Oh, and don't be discouraged by price, I know many private schools do payment plans and offer assistance and scholarships and etc that can help parents out a lot with tuition costs.

I would definitely send your child to the private school. I actually really liked how it turned out for me. I had gone to the private school with better discipline, smaller classes, and a better learning environment. Once I was older I went to the public school, but I had already gotten a good base education in a better setting, plus I was able to take advantage of the bigger school system sports teams, and exposure for colleges and such.

Private school for your little one all the way!!!!

I attended private schools my whole life and I appreciate what my parents went through to send me there but I wish I had gone to a public school. My school was so small I didn't have as many choices as I would have with a public school. The private school was nice though because everyone knew everyone and you had a close relationship with all of your teachers. So, there are pros and cons to both but it also depends on where you live. My daughter goes to public school but it's ranked in the top 5% of the state so I wouldn't even consider putting her in a private school. Anyway, I think you should research any schools you are considering and make sure if you go with a private school that it's worth the money.

It depends what kind of public district you're in. You might want to check out the schools already available (you pay taxes there you might as well give it a chance!) and compare them to the private schools. Private is not always better. In our situation, both of our children went to private for a number of years however we soon realized that the education provided was not even comparible to what the public schools had to offer- in addition to the extracuricular activites. Like I said, it depends where you are- what's available. It's not a matter of private vs. public, it's a matter of which will provide your son with the best education and which you feel most comfortable with.

Good luck!

The only private school in our area is a Catholic school, which we're not. It also costs more than a year's tuition at college, and we can't afford that. Our son will definitely be going to a public school, hopefully the same one I went to as a child.

I think there are definitely advantages to both: with a private school, classes are smaller and there's more one on one attention. However, with a public school, there is less competition and a greater diversity of people.

i have been to both, and to tell the truth there's not much difference. It's best for public school becuase then your son can interact with people from all backgrounds. At a private school he won't be getting a feel for the real world that he will need to be a part of when he gets older.

Absolutely!
I have taught in an middle/upper class suburban public schools for 10+ years. I would NEVER send my child to public - Private all the way!
Discipline is better and you don't have to deal with the government mandating their agendas.
I only teach in public for the $$$ - private pays much less.

And by the way, the whole idea about "less diversity" is a fallacy....Please! I have worked in private and public schools. Private schools go out of their way to attract a diverse population. They give out scholarships, have children of all colors, etc.

Don't base "diversity' on your decision! Do what's right for you!

i have went to both public and private schools i liked the private school better less fights and the people were nicer the public schools had three times more fight and teachers were meaner because they have to put up with the other students who didnt want to be there and wanted to cause problems so i think it would be a better idea to put ur son in a private school education is better to me also......I went in 6th grade so i wasnt as young as ur son i am now 17 so it might be diffrent.......

I quite have attended the two for my area and to be undemanding with you, the time-honored public training in my area replaced into plenty extra effectual than the interior maximum training I gained. whilst i replaced into examined for the interior maximum (catholic) college, the critical warned my mothers and dads i would be left back, she replaced into taken aback whilst my rankings got here back and that i examined a grade larger after being in public college for 5 years. you are able to desire to look on the status of the college's lecturers. I do understand what you say approximately exposing your new child to suggestions/coaching you do no longer believe, even in spite of the shown fact that, as long as you place a competent occasion, and clarify why on your infants, this would possibly not probable replace right into a controversy. My infants are 15 and 13 and the two in public colleges
