depends on what island you go to and where you stay. I went to the big island last year and was very disappointmend. As soon as you get off the plane all you do is see black lava rock everywhere. Now when i reached my hotel it was awesome. I never left. I stayed at the Hilton in Waikoloa Village. we had our own dolphns at the hotel that you can swim with. Pools everywhere, water slides etc... it was great. This year i am going to Maui. They say its the lovers island. You should go see the water falls and go snorkeling. They have sunset dinner cruises. horseback riding on the beach. helicoptor tours. parasailing hicking trips..

I guess that would depend on who you've been listening to. I was reluctant to go to Hawaii because it's been so hyped as "paradise" but once I got there, I was delighted. Oahu is rather populated and the tourist areas are overbuilt, too many hotels for me. I've never been to Maui but everyone I know who has always is eager to return there. Kauai is lush and beautiful with a variety of things to do (hiking, snorkeling, helicopters, etc.). The Big Island is more spacious and less built up but still homey. You can take excursions to Molakai. And now I'd go back to Hawaii any time (except during a hurricane). If you do a search on the web, you'll find many sites with pictures of Hawaii and lists of "things to do" in that particular area. If you're not into tourism and big impersonal hotels, avoid Honolulu (the other side of Oahu is nice though, has surfing in season). What I also like about holidaying in Hawaii is that it is part of the U.S. so you don't to go through customs (but you cannot bring vegetation or fruit in) and the laws are familiar so you can just enjoy yourself much like you would anywhere in the US.

Our shores have been infested with misguided tourists who do not respect Hawaiian and local traditions. They bring their ugly white-supremist attitudes from the Continental US and look down upon anyone "different" as "inferior."They trapse along private land and descrate burial sites and other historic places. Hawai'i is being destroyed by greed and wealth. Respect Hawai'i, respect the Hawaiians, and respect the kama'aina who live in Hawai'i. Before statehood in 1959, the visitors came and respected the local people, and understood that this was a former sovereign Hawaiian Kingdom with international treaties. Now it's all about building time-shares on our once pristine beaches. Oh, one last thing: If you're staying in Ka'anapali, good luck trying to see the water from the highway! The tall imposing time-shares now impede the view!

I live on Oahu BUT I'd suggest you go to Maui. Maui has less people and is all around more peaceful and "romantic".....
