Most times, when I experience stress, it manifests itself in some form of a physical reaction--I break out all over my face, my back, my legs. A friend of mine, if she's too stressed out, forgets how to breathe properly and starts to hyperventilate....We all have something.....we stress over, have anxiety episodes etc.
Yes, going to the doctor is an option, depending how severe your attacks are, but before you do that...try doing this exercise every time you get one of those attacks:
Whenever you feel one of these attacks coming, take 1 to 5 minutes to calm yourself. Say "stop". Choose a word, a phrase, or a mental image for yourself that usually brings peace to your mind whenever you experience it. Whenever you feel an attack coming take that time, to repeat your word, phrase or to mentally picture your "serenity place" until you are calm. You can also use aromatherapy to help you relax. Get lavender oil, which is usually relaxing and very calming. This by no means will cure you but it will help you cope.
Please remember that what you focus on becomes your reality, so find times to focus on the positive and all the little things that make you happy in life....Hope this helps a little.
It might not totally work in the beginning, but it's all about practice, continuous practice...you have to consciously make the decision to do this....every time

I am 23 and at the age of 22 I had a nervous breakdown, so I definitely know where you could be heading. I think that breathing exercises are a good way to avoid panic attacks and help you to sleep (I assume that's also also a problem for you). I also felt like my heart and lungs were going to burst until I started getting things under control. Try taking slow deep breaths, doing normal breathing when you start to feel faint. I've also found that prescription drugs do help. I think that once things start going down a steep spiral of anxiety you need something to help you feel "normal" again. I take Lexapro now, but used to take Celexa (chemically very similar drugs) and Klonapin when needed. I would strongly suggest that you see a psychiatrist to get some medication. You don't have to commit to any sessions with them. It's just hard to find an MD that will prescribe SSRI's now and psychiatrist's have a better understanding of what combinations work. I wouldn't recommed trying anything herbal from the store. I tried that and it just made things worse. Really controlling chronic anxiety is pretty individualized I think, but you'll find a combination that works for you. Don't dispair! Also think about repairing those problems that are causing you anxiety. Time will pass and those problems will disappear. Eventually you'll find yourself able to breathe again.

Anxiety is a tough thing to deal with, i've dealt with it myself. I found the problem wasn't anxiety, it was the way i was seeing the problem. Medication and quick fix techniques never solved it. It was a deeper problem that could only be fixed in my own mind. The thing that helped me the most was a book called the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I recommend checking it out if you really want a permanent solution.

If your having that much of a stress reaction you should really go to a doctor and let them help you. Other then that, taking a few minutes to close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Make sure your sleeping enough at night (lack of sleep can make any problem worse) ask for help if you need it, learn to prioritize what you need to get done and get organized so it doesn't stress you out.
