I would ensure that the "21 gun salute" was very carefully aimed!

Well, my state (Illinois) now has a law against such protests.
From:
http://www.illinois.gov/PressReleases/ShowPressRelease.cfm?SubjectID=1&RecNum=4891
"The new law protects grieving family members and friends by putting a 200-foot privacy zone between the funeral site and protestors who sing loudly, play music, chant, whistle, yell, or make any other type of disturbing noise. SB 1144 also prohibits protesters from displaying any visual images that convey fighting words or threats against any other person, and makes it illegal to knowingly obstruct a person’s entry or exit from a funeral site. Disruptive and inflammatory protests will be prohibited 30 minutes before a funeral, during a funeral, and 30 minutes after the funeral within that 200-foot privacy zone."
The punishment?
"A first time violation of the Act is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $1,500 fine and a Class 4 felony for a second or subsequent offense, which is punishable by one to three years in state prison and a fine of up to $25,000."
So, given the fact that they would be committing a pretty serious crime in the state of Illinois, I think I'd call 911, have their sorry asses arrested and hope that it was their second offense so that they'd have to serve hard time.
Well, that's what I think I'd do anyway, the truth is that I would probably end up in jail as well because I may feel the need to place them under a citizen's arrest before the police arrive and, well, if they resist my arrest and I have to beat them into submission...

I agree it would not be pretty. Probably at the funeral itself I would ask others to take care of it since it would be my time to be with my child the last time. But I sure would be at other military funerals from then on to express my kind of reaction to protesters who want to use others deaths for their misinformed illogical agenda.

The Patriot Guard Riders put their motorcycles between the protesters and the family. Physically going after a bunch of nitwits in the middle of a funeral procession is not the right place or the right time. These people will get theirs. Trust me.

me and all my family members would probably go to jail and the protesters to the hospital, my husbands best friend is in the honor guard and goes to many military funerals and he said their are these bikers that accompany the families and keep anybody away who even thinks about protesting, i think that is pretty cool

You know that flag they fold up and hand to the family at the conclusion of the funeral? Well, let's just say I'd unfold it and strangle each one of 'em with it. Can't think of a better use for the United States flag than that, can you?

I don't even know. It wouldn't be pretty OR legal I can tell you that.
Those people are just rude!
I would invite the Patriot Guard but I don't think even that would be enough to make me forget about them. I couldn't handle it.

Very diificult to say if it was my childs funeral but if I witnessed it happening at any funeral I think I would be moved to violence. The libs always want look down on those who resort to violence but I believe it is justified in many cases. A guy should get his *** kicked for doing certain things and protesting at the funerals of fallen heroes is one of them.

I would be proud my son died for these people's right to protest.
Sad, but true. Ain't that what serving in the military is all about? Guaran-dam-teeing the freedoms of our constitution?
There are no conditions on serving or dying for your country.

If that were to happen I would completely lose all composure and redirect the 21 gun salute ceremony to hit the protesters.
