You can use tap water, just top it up every week - don't need to change it at all. To make it last - do not put it in a sunny room- it should stay in shade, then it will last very long!

I've always just used my tap water for my bamboo. After 5 years, so far so good.

Sellers will tell you to use distilled water & change it out every two weeks. I personally use tap water & rarely change it out. I've had 1 bamboo for 4 yrs. with no probs.
