Use the high performance 351 cleveland heads with big valves and ports. They are hard to find and expensive.
It will need a special intake manifold to match up to the heads, and good quality head bolts with washers.
If you use the regular 351c or 351m heads, you will be wasting your time. The performance boost would be very little if any at all.
You might want to consider stronger rods (some local builders are using modified chevy ones) and better main bearing bolts.

Essentially yes but it will never be a BOSS 302. the BOSS 302 does not even use the same block as the standard 302. the BOSS 302 block has screw in freeze plugs and 4 bolt mains. a regular 302 block uses push in freeze plugs and 2 bolt mains. a BOSS 302 does NOT use 350 heads like some other Morons have mentioned 350 is Chevy. The heads used on the BOSS 302 later found themselves in use on the 351C, the 351W uses the SAME heads as a 302 and will give A---regular ol 302 you will need a busing kit for the headbolts. For head selection I would try to find a pair of 2V Aussie heads. As mentioned previously B&A will have an intake you can use. You will need to use headers/manifolds for a 351C/M/400, You will also need a bushing kit for the cylinder head bolts (302's use a 7/16's cylinder head bolt 351's use a 1/2" cylinder head bolt. You will have to go to a machine shop to have some water passage relocation work done. What is so special about the 351C heads is first and foremost they are a canted head which staggers the valves instead of having them in a straight line, Valves are also much larger They also use Oval ports unlike the rectangular ports found on standard 302/351W heads this makes for a smoother airflow. Another thing not mentioned is you WILL need special pistons with the valve reliefs cast into the proper locations for the 351C heads. Overall there is ALOT of work to do to a 302 to create a mockup BOSS302 and if you are willing to go through all that work I would take it one step further and build from a 351W block stroked to a 408. You can then get an adapter kit that allows you to use a regular intake for a 302, this motor can easily be setup for EFI use.

You can buy a crate motor Boss 302 from FORD starting at $5k - if you doubt me look it up .
You can make a clevor 302 by installing 351 cleveland heads ( after welded and machined )and a used boss intake from ebay or a new track boss intake for $500 . The pistons would have to be special ordered for the canted valves.
This is a neat nostalgic motor but is a poor performance choice for the money . Unless you spend some big bucks for a forged crank and high rpm parts your throwing your money away . The boss did its magic at a constant 7000+ rpm for long periods of time (Trans am racing)
In my opinion an decently built 302 ho would out perform a boss 302 in a street vehicle .

The boss was a 302 winsor block with 351 Cleveland style heads. There is some machine work necessary. The motor is called a "Clevor". A special intake made by B&A Ford is required.

MARC VEZ is right. the cam you need to put into it to make a standard 302 with 350 heads in to a 302 Boss is a 3/4 inch lift. That will give it a base horse power of 325. if you want more horse power, The best way is to upgrade the fuel dilivery and spark plugs, and a high flow fresh air intake preferrably a K&N system.

Use the 351C 2V heads, not the 4V. That's what was used on the Boss 302. The 4V head ports are way to large for only 302ci. Plus the boss style intakes only fir 2V heads.
