Umm, it cheapens marriage. Let me explain.
It's simple economics. The more marriages there are, the cheaper they become. Supply and demand. So, fewer marriages means more valuable marriages.
That's why I propose that we ban marriage for blacks, Jews, vegetarians, and people who are left handed. It'll be really ****** sacred then!

Well, let's sidetrack and look at something called the "government." Now, the head of this government was the Republicans, who took most of their beliefs from the Pope and George W. Bush. Now, since Christianity has been so warped over time to include those couple of very biased statements about gay people, the Pope advocates against being gay, and therefore so does Georgie, and so does the White house, which means, yes, so does the rest of the United States, except for Massachusetts. (HANG STRONG, Guys!) In a government where the separation of Church and State was actually ENFORCED, there would be no reason to do something like this to gay people. But since it's not, we're left unable to marry or adopt (except in Massachusetts.)

I cannot think of any legitimate reason why homosexuals cannot marry. I can think of several good reasons why they should be allowed to marry. They are:
1) provides a legal state recognized relationship, where property ownership and parental responsibility can be shared.
2) provides additional revenue to government via the marriage tax penalty
3) provides additional loving families into which the many unwanted babies (who were not aborted) can be adopted

a million. The Bible is a valid reason 2. God(Jesus Christ) evaluate homosexuality an abomination. Abomination which skill worst than something of the sins stated interior the ten Commandments. in contrast to absolutely everyone else, becuase god cares, no longer just about our actual bodies, yet approximately our soul. something that breaths and has life has a soul or because it grow to be referred to as in Genesis "the breathe of life"; and God could opt to be certain our souls in heaven, so interior the path of the girls and adult males of God He reaches out to us. 3.i comprehend some human beings dont like the God protection, yet it somewhat is the biggest and suitable clarification why have been aginst it. God created us male and lady; He gave the male the penus nd the femal the vigina becuase the objective, specific objective, as in there's a reason have been given sexual organs; and for us to pass against the objective of why God gave us sexual organs is seen abominable by employing God. the objective is to reproduce, no longer purely have relaxing and do in spite of the hell we choose. 4. Any scientist with hassle-loose experience or guy or woman that makes use of the techniques God gave them alongside with their eyeballs, ought to be waiting to be certain that our international is created by employing oppisites. The adverse fee is drawn to the effective fee, the chilly air mixes and swirls with the nice and comfortable air to create a tornado, the penus interior the vigina to 9 (or is it 8?) months later produce new life, a clean toddler. Evan the principals of spin, some thing spining is created from oppisites;one issues going this way the different issues going any opposite direction. whilst this and that connect up and collide with each and each othr the consequence is spin, entering into circles. 5. God stated some specific those that wont see the dominion of God, till they repent and are available to God they're going to finally end up interior the lake of hearth. And between this checklist of human beings are homosexuals 6. a million Corinthians 6:9-Do you no longer comprehend that the wicked won't inherit the dominion of God? don't be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor gay offenders. 7. besides it no longer being organic, God would not know gay marriage; purely the union between a guy and a girl.

because to "marry" is to join things that are DIFFERENT.
ham and cheese
peanut butter and jelly
oil and vinegar
man and woman
they can live together, share life in all it's details, even have sex with one another (although that is illegal or WAS illegal throughout the US until very recently), but they cannot "MARRY". To legalize this unholy union of two men or two women would legitimize an oxymoron.
The other thing that irritates those of us who feel that homosexuality is a sin is this: for a nation that was built upon the foundations of GOD's liberty, people want to remove Him from our laws. We say believe what you want, practice what you want, BUT our laws are designed around a CREATOR, and we will not allow you denigrate that. I'm not saying we are a "christian nation", but it is undeniable that the inspiration behind our freedoms came from God. You are free because God made you free, and He gave men the wisdom and courage to fight for same. All God fearing people believe homosexuality is sin (at least until recently), and sodomy was a crime. As a people, we have said, "ok, we will not interrupt what you do in private, but when you want to make a legal mockery of this thing, we say ENOUGH."
If the homos want to live in degradation, fine. We will not stand by and watch them try and make it something it is not.
Marriage is a union of man and woman.

IS there any legitimate reason for gays to WANT to marry. Males especially are not very monogamous in that particular life style; and, I suspect that the females don't have a very long 'shelf life' for one partner.
No, gays want to marry for very selfish reasons: they want the spousal benefits of health insurance, legal rights of inheritance, and to 'possess' the other -- thereby affording less chance or license for infidelity. By the way...that is a big reason for hetero marriage. It doesn't work, but that's another post. LOL
As for the Bible, go read what Noah's son did to him and you will see that it is shameful...so shameful that, in the days the Bible was written, it was unspeakable and unprintable. Then, go study about the man Lot in the town of sodom....IF God is life and reproduction continues the evolution He has started.....Then, gay sex...which precludes the bringing of life into this world is: against the natural law. (period)
Now, the above does not even begin to speak of the psychological death of "boy psyche development" or 'girl psyche development'...but, that is another post.

No.
And a "biblical" reference isn't even a good excuse...
While the bible does make some vague references about men and women cleaving together, nowhere does it say that men can't marry men or women can't marry women.
Nowhere.
Go ahead, bible believers -- find where it says a man can't marry a man in the bible...
I'm still waiting...:)
I mean, the bible goes into SUCH DETAIL about all these tiny little rules and regulations...what to eat when, how to clean food, how to see how a hoof is cloven to determine what you can and can't eat, what you can and can't say with regard to god...
You'd think if "god" wanted to forbid homosexual marriages, "he" would have said so!
But "he" didn't... :)
Peace.

There's no honest debate on this subject.
While you have a bit of a point, you're presuming this is a question of equality. It is not.
Gay marriage proponents do not want equality. The fact is that married couples get several preferences from the government, and gay marriage proponents want them. Not for everyone, and not to abolish them, they want to benefit from the inequality, without even justifying the existence of the inequality to begin with.
I don't have any prejudice against gays, but I'm against gay marriage until they make the case more honestly than just saying "why not?" Doesn't explain "why".

You say the bible say so is not a legitimate reason but it is. Marriage is though religion and through the church. If the church doesn't believe in something why should they carry it out there "laws" say they are against it so they are. Its not so much anything but the churchs that don't allow it and they shouldn't if they are against it. Its not fair but ether is life if you really love somebody you really don't need the church to tell you this.

Who says what is or is not "legitimate"?Humans reason unlike animals. For a government to sanction an act that goes against the health of its society is folly.Sodomy goes against nature. It breaks down the traditional family structure. It flies in the face of reason. And it opens a pandora's box of limitless abominations to be codified into law by that government. Why not marriage between cats and humans?Don't attack religion.Think about your position from a philosophical viewpoint without the emotional baggage you are carrying.

If you consider marriage a religious sacrament then the basis for saying no to the sacrament would be the bible, but remember the bible does not condemn homosexuals, just defines marriage.
But if you are talking marriage as a secular civil union, no thereis no reason for not allowing them to have a civil marriage.
