Since your wedding website will provide valuable information (maps, things to do, etc.), I think it is appropriate to include a card (enclosure card that matches your invitation, self created card on similiar cardstock, etc.) that says something like:
Please visit [URL]
for directions and further information
pertaining to our wedding celebration.
Hope to see you there!

I would do it, it doesn't sound tacky at all. Even if it did who would care it's your special day planning and you can do what you want!!! Also, it will save a few bucks (Always a plus!) The website is an awesome idea, I wish we would have thought of that for our wedding, very unique!

I don't think it would be tacky if you did it right. As was mentioned, don't have your wedding website scream "registry." In fact, don't mention it at all. On that card, you could write something like:
To see our story, see our church (or other wedding venue), get directions and more, go to our wedding website.
www.blahblahblah.com
If you could make the card the same material and script (or similar) that would be even better.

sending them to your wedding website would be fine but just don't have the registry the biggest or first thing they see.
Websites are great for giving updated information and directions! Good idea :)

not at all. a friend of my family did a similar thing and it worked out really well. their website had their registries, directions to their wedding & reception, and local hotels for out of town guests. they even included a story about how they met, etc. the website was really cute and very useful!

It is rude to publicize your own website at any time, and using ANY method (little inserted cards, mass email, on your website, using a megaphone, etc-- it is all RUDE and should not be done).
You must wait to be asked, and then you can let that person know. After that it spreads by word of mouth.

as long as you explain that on the card. If all you have is "visit our website" the recipient may wonder why.
