Why is it that Christians have to say this phrase? it makes Jesus sound like a deadly virus.

Instead, You should simply ask "Do you believe in Jesus?"

I agree. I am a Christian, and that phrase gets on my nerves also. They make it sound like Jesus is something to obtain.

I like "have you found Jesus?"

usually you complain that you can't be going off finding other people's saviors for them, and if he's so important why do you keep losing him enough and they stop asking.

Maybe it's because "have Jesus" is so hard to have a comeback from, even if I did think "The 2008 models will be available shortly, in red, white and wintermint."

Haha...that's really good! Otherwise it sounds as though he's part of your cash...'do you have jesus'!
Yeah, it's better to use 'do you believe in...' then some people won't take it the wrong way, or make their own definitions about it!

Because it's more than "just a belief". Should you believe in him, yes. But as Christians, we do more than just believe in Him. We put all of our faith, and trust and life in Him. It's not just a religion, it's a relationship with Him. And that is why people say it.

From my perspective, It cheapens one's relationship with the Son of God, surely? I mean, it reduces your connection to the Divine to the lowest common denomination level of "Got Milk?". Yes, faith should be accessible to all, but to Madison-Avenue-ise it? Really, we'll be seeing tasteless billboards, next...
I weep for my Christian siblings, that their once Noble faith has been reduced to a slogan on a chewing gum wrapper.

They say it so they can identify who to like and who to hate. Instead they should love everybody like Jesus taught whether they believe in him or not.

Yes, I have Him in my heart.
I have Him in my mind.
I have Him as my Savior
Now Mr. English teacher, don't this say I believe in Jesus?
Also, Jesus has me!

I think a better way would be to say "does Jesus have you?" We are the virus He is the cure... Jim

They say this because it has a connotation of being closer than just believing.
Believing is mental.
They are trying to transfer the idea that He is part of them.
