No you dont have to be batized to be a Christian. It says in Roman 10:9-10
For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.
Baptism signifies repentance.

Technically, no. The thief on the cross was saved, yet not baptized.
By the same token, a soldier dying in the field of battle or the victim of a car wreck may receive Christ and die before a baptism can be performed.
As Christians, we undergo baptism (full immersion by my faith) out of obedience to the Lord's teaching and by His example with John the Baptist.

Baptism does not save but God asked us to do it. If someone converted just before his death without having the time to be baptized, he'd still be saved. You have to be Christian to be baptized, not the reverse as catholics seem to think.
And fully submersed seems to be in order in the Bible.

In a way yes, Your heart must be baptized in the blood of Christ. For you that think I am mad that is s figurative statement. When you believe in Jesus you become a new creation. Literal baptism is the outward symbol a testimony to the world that this important joining of the believer to His Lord has occurred... Jim

Dear The real, Neither of those are true. Baptisim is an anct which is done to represent the change that has been made inside a person when they become saved, it does not save us. were saved by Gods grace and Gods grace alone. let me explain by asking you a few questions.............
Have you ever lied, stolen, lusted, coveted, or been angry with someone unjustly? If so, then you have broken the Law of God. God has said "You shall not steal; You shall not lie; You shall have no other gods before Me; You shall not murder, Covet, comittt adultery ect. You get the picture. if you have done these things, you have broken the Holy Law of God. Gods Law is represenative of His Holy Character and nature and thats why he hates sin so much. The Bible says no sin will go unpunished, you must face God and if you have broken His Law by lying, stealing, lusting ect, then you will be in huge trouble. the BIble says Gods wrath abides upon you and you will face eternal hell. but thats not the end, there is such wonderful news. Christ died for you, when he died, Gods wrath was pourded out upon jesus instead of us. You broke the law but Jesus paid the fine. Now God commands you and men everywhere to repent (turn from sin) and trust in christ as you would trust a parachute if you were jumping from 30,000 feet. The Moment you repent and turn from sin and trust in christ, you will be saved. Please, I plead with you today, Dont wait, turn from sin and trust in Him while there is still time left. I dont want your Money, I dont want you to Join my Church. I only want you to consider the importance of your eternal destiny.
God Bless

Neither.
Baptism is a separate act from salvation. It is a symbolic public act identifying yourself as a follower of Jesus.
Submersion is the preferred method - outdoors in running water if we want to get really picky about it.

no, it is more important to be baptized by the holy spirit
"I (John the Baptist) baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
