This protection may be in the form of civil protection, criminal protection, or physical protection, such as those that may occur in a natural disaster. This protection is typically provided by three primary organizations: police, fire, and EMS.

Additional organizations and job titles may include the American Red Cross (quasi-governmental), US Coast Guard, animal control officers, security officers, parking enforcement officers, police dispatchers, public prosecutors, code enforcement officers, utility inspectors, and even judges.
